PALM COAST, Fla. (June 9, 2010) – ‘O’ BEAM (www.obeamputt.com), a laser-based putting training aid, is now in use at the John Means Golf Academy in Minneapolis, including the nationally-ranked John Means Golf Camps, John Means Adult Golf Schools and the John Means Golf Academy of Champions. Means and his staff have incorporated ‘O’ BEAM into their instructional programs to assist students with head and eye positioning.
“It is a pleasure to have a leading instructor like John Means using ‘O’ BEAM as a teaching aid,” said Katie O’Keefe, founder, president and CEO of ‘O’ BEAM. “His academy students of all ages and ability levels will appreciate the consistency that ‘O’ BEAM brings to their game.”
‘O’ BEAM was created in 2008 by O’Keefe, Director of Instruction for Hampton Golf, when she observed that many of her students were experiencing improper setup and excess head movement while putting, preventing them from establishing the foundation for an effective putting stroke. The ‘O’ BEAM allows a player to practice proper setup and reduced head movement, leading to better putting results.
“My students are experiencing significant improvement by using ‘O’ BEAM in their practice sessions,” said John Means. “‘O’ BEAM is a simple yet extremely useful tool that provides immediate feedback and valuable information.”
A nationally-ranked instructor, Means is the former head coach of the University of Minnesota men’s golf team. He led the resurgence of the Gophers to a position as a national power, and he has Big 10 and NCAA Championships to his credit. Means currently is the head women’s golf coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; his teams have been ranked in the top ten in the country ever since his arrival. Means also works with several PGA Tour players, an LPGA player and some of the top-ranked juniors in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
To practice putting with ‘O’ BEAM, a player places the ‘O’ BEAM device on the visor portion of his hat. With the power switch in the ON position, the ‘O’ BEAM shoots a laser beam – in the shape of an ‘O’ – that the player positions on the ball. When the player addresses the ball, ‘O’BEAM’s laser allows for the correction of any head movement in order to achieve a smoother and more consistent putting stroke.
