SCOTTSDALE, ariz. – Jay Larscheid of Longbow Golf Club, and three golf professionals from Eagle Mountain Golf Club, Jeremy Hayman, Steve Nichols and Robb Palmgren, joined 37 other golf professionals from the Southwest Section PGA (SWSPGA) to raise funds for Arizona Special Olympics by playing 100 holes of golf in one day on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. The SWSPGA created the program to assist its golf professionals in fundraising efforts for local charities. This year, the 40 professionals who participated in the 100-hole event raised a combined $125,506, with Larscheid, Hayman, Nichols and Palmgren accounting for $9,236 of the total amount. Details of the fundraising program:
1) Each PGA Professional pledged $1 per hole to support his/her own effort.
2) The PGA Professional then solicited per-hole pledges for the 100 holes played.
3) Various sponsors included club members, friends, family, vendors and daily guests.
4) Those electing to pledge simply visited the website of their professional, selected the amount per hole and paid with a credit card.
5) The PGA Professionals played 100 holes of golf on his/her home course.
6) Proceeds from the event support Special Olympics Arizona and the SWSPGA Foundation
At Longbow Golf Club, it took Jay Larscheid 9 hours and 17 minutes to play the 100 holes.
“It certainly is a lot of golf in one day, but luckily I managed to keep the ball in play all day long,” said Larscheid. “It’s just a pleasure for me to earn funds for the Special Olympics by doing something that I love. A sincere thank you goes out to all that sponsored this effort. See you next year.”
With the generosity of Larscheid’s sponsors, he was able to personally raise $5,400 for Special Olympics and SWSPGA Foundation.
Three other golf professionals from the OB Sports family, Jeremy Hayman, Steve Nichols and Robb Palmgren, played 100 holes each at their home course, Eagle Mountain Golf Club. Together they raised $3,775 for the causes.
“This is my second year participating in the fundraising efforts, and God willing, I’ll be doing the same thing next year,” said Hayman. “Thanks to my sponsors, we were able to do our part to continue the great tradition of friendly competition that the Special Olympics pioneered many years ago.”
