Acclaimed Carter Morrish design site of prestigious event
(COPPEROPOLIS, Calif.) — Saddle Creek Resort, located in the scenic Sierra Foothills of Calaveras County, will host 2010 U.S. Senior Open regional qualifying, June 28, with top finishers eligible for the major championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington (July 29 — Aug. 1).
This distinction continues a long stream of accolades for the Carter Morrish-designed course. In March, Saddle Creek ranked No. 15 in California in Golfweek’s “Best You Can Play, State-by-State.” Golf Digest awarded Saddle Creek 4 1/2 stars. In California, only Pebble Beach Golf Resort is positioned higher. GOLF Magazine has named the scenic layout “One of America’s Most Underrated Courses.”
“We are honored to host some of the finest senior golfers in the country,” says Bob Higgins, General Manager. “The fact that the USGA feels our course will identify competitors for the pinnacle event on the senior golf calendar speaks volumes to the quality we offer.”
Saddle Creek’s challenging-yet-fair design and excellent conditioning has made the resort a perennial favorite for golfers of all abilities. Accommodations for guests feature luxurious Bungalows that are within a few paces of both the golf course and Saddle Creek Lodge and within a minute’s walk of the Copper Grille — a culinary destination of Calaveras County. The Copper Grille also offers breakfast daily starting at seven a.m.
Says Higgins, “Whether you’re trying to qualify for the Senior Open or simply want to enjoy a round of golf amid some of the great vistas of the West, Saddle Creek Resort is waiting for you with open arms and friendly smiles.”

About Saddle Creek Resort
Situated in the rolling foothills of the Central Sierra region just two hours from the Bay Area and 1.5 hours from Sacramento, Saddle Creek Resort is located in the heart of the Copper Valley in Copperopolis. Golfers will discover stunning vistas of the towering Sierra Mountains to the east, while an ethereal collection of shimmering lakes, native trees, indigenous grasses and 100 bunkers provides a challenging, thought-provoking experience from tee to green. To create an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation, golf course architect Carter Morrish devised a routing in which no two holes run parallel to each other.
