IRVINE, CA – JUNE 17, 2010 – FOURTEEN GOLF, recognized as a worldwide leader in wedge design and a known favorite amongst top touring golf professionals, proudly announced that their tour program continues to experience remarkable growth as its new MT-28 V5 Wedges gain wider acceptance.
According to FOURTEEN GOLF COO Marcy Kamoda, “Our increased presence on the PGA and LPGA can be directly credited to the MT-28 V5. This past weekend, we had four TOP-10 finishes and 47 wedges in play. That number is up significantly. I also want to compliment our tour reps Rusty Estes and Steve Loerzel who work hard every week to meet the demands and needs of the golfing professionals.”
At the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, seven PGA Professionals relied on a FOURTEEN GOLF wedge to navigate the difficult greens of TPC Southwind Memphis but one PGA Professional used his dependable MT-28 V5 in a 58 degree loft to clinch his third Top-10 of the PGA Golf season.
“The new wedge makes my job easier. These pros have to have ball control and hold the greens and with the new groove change, most wedges do not. The MT-28 V5 is in a class of its own,” stated PGA Tour Representative, Rusty Estes.
Verified by an industry report, FOURTEEN GOLF had 40 wedges in play at the LPGA State Farm Classic. That is 23 more than Cleveland Golf, and 25 more than Nike. These numbers exhibit the strength behind the FOURTEEN GOLF brand at the tour level. At the same event, three professionals secured a TOP-10 finish.
“Each week our wedge count varies but inevitably when a course demands precision from a 100 yard and in, our wedge count climbs. I would say that is the same with our irons,” said LPGA Tour Representative, Steve Loerzel.
In preparation for the new groove policy on the professional tours such as the PGA and LPGA, the company spent years engineering a new head and groove combination for the MT-28 V5 that would be in compliance with the USGA’s requirements and yet maintained the ultimate spin rate. The company not only met that objective but exceeded their expectations.
For exceptional spin and control, the entirely new unique trapezoidal shaped groove works in unison with the MT-28 V5 highly engineered head. In fact, this combination was tested in a variety of conditions and it outperformed the MT-28 V4 in wet soggy conditions and maintained the same spin rate in dry conditions. The trapezoidal groove also undergoes a mirror-face milling process which precisely and carefully mills each groove for optimal spin.
The MT-28 V5 wedge features a classically design head which features its signature FOURTEEN “reverse taper design” but has been improved by adding a groove strategically located in between the club sole and blade portion of the wedge. This structural change allowed the engineers to move the CG to a higher more stabilizing position for more precise shots.
The MT-28 V5 head is manufactured with a Nickel Chrome molybdenum alloy finish which conforms to the 2010 USGA club regulations. It is available in both a chrome and non-plated black finish. The wedge comes in a variety of lofts, a 50, 52, 56/12, and a 58/12 degree. A left-handed chrome finish model is also available. Two steel shafts, a Dynamic Gold and NS Pro 950GH are available. A proprietary rubber grips finishes these classic wedges.
