Renowned Faldo Course at World’s Largest Golf Club to Challenge Field of Future Stars
(SHENZHEN, China) — Mission Hills China — developer of the world’s largest golf club and impetus for China’s golf boom — announces more than 120 of China’s best young golfers will have another chance to hit the world stage when it hosts the 2010 Faldo Series China Championship, July 13-14.
The budding young talents will battle it out over the Faldo Course at Mission Hills in Shenzhen next week, with the goal of booking a return trip to the ‘Home of the Faldo Series Asia’ for the Grand Final to be played on the same course in March 2011. The winners in each of five age divisions will receive the coveted return invites.
The China Championship is part of an impressive summer in Mission Hills’ drive to develop the game in the world’s most populous nation. In early May, the first Seasonal Final of Mission Hills Golf Series-Junior Tour produced five division winners to join the Grand Final in 2011.
In late May, the club hosted the third edition of the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship, won by Hong Kong’s Terrence Ng. Later this month it will play host to the first Greg Norman Mission Hills Junior Development Program (July 27-August 1).
Says Tenniel Chu, Executive Director, Mission Hills China: “As the official home of the Faldo Series Asia since 2006, we enjoy a successful, long-term partnership with Sir Nick and his organization. We share his aggressive vision for junior golf development in China and, indeed, Asia.”
“As such, we are proud that the Faldo Series China Championship is part of a very busy summer for Mission Hills in terms of junior golf. Partnerships with Nick, plus Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman allow us to put a true focus on the growth of the game for the future. This is a commitment of which we are very proud and a responsibility we take very seriously,” adds Chu.
The field for the China Championship will be divided into five age categories: three for boys (Under-21, Under-18 and Under-16) and two for girls (Under-21 and Under-16). The winner of each category will qualify for the fifth Asian Grand Final, an R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills in March 2011.
In another exciting opportunity, the six-time Major winner and Mission Hills will extend a ‘wild-card’ invitation to the Grand Final to the leading national player in each age category at the China Championship if he or she has not qualified automatically.
Mission Hills’ other commitments to junior golf include its role as host of the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship and the Greg Norman Mission Hills Junior Development Program, the creation of the Mission Hills Golf Series Junior Tour, instruction programs at its three golf academies specifically geared toward young players, and regular scheduling of clinics from greats of the game like Nicklaus, Norman, Faldo and Vijay Singh.
