The first National Junior Golf Ranking system which is point based and encourages play at the junior level while breaking down tournament rank by yardage, slope and rating.
JACKSONVILLE, FL (June 18,2010) The Tour Resource Center (TRC) has announced their new TRC Junior Ranking system, nicknamed the junior ‘Talent Report Card’ on Friday July 9, 2010. Georgina Lewis, CEO, presented this new system and gave explanation of how it differs from other ranking systems and how it will benefit junior golfers.
“TRC has released the first NATIONAL point based ranking system for junior golfers, many individual Tours across the country have a point based system for their tournaments and players. We have built upon this concept and included National Tour events, including Canada, into one international point based system.”, said Georgina Lewis CEO of the Tour Resource Center. “Point based systems, unlike handicap systems, encourage play which is essential for a junior golfer who is going to play college golf”.
The main goal of this new ranking system is to create equal opportunity for all tournament directors and junior golfers alike. All tournaments in the TRC Junior Golf Ranking system is ranked based on the yardage, slope and rating and the more events these golfers play in and perform well, the more points they will be awarded.
Also this allows a State or Regional Tour to host larger, tougher more “college equivalent” events and get the heavier rating scale in the TRC Junior Golf Ranking system. Juniors will not have the big expense of traveling across the country, which is costly in these economic times, to find one of these ‘Top Level’ tournaments. College Coaches will be able to finally review a golfers ability to play and score well at the Yardage and scale of an event more in line with the College Golf Tournaments and conditions.
There are currently only two other National junior golfer ranking systems. Both of these ranking systems use rating or handicap systems. “There are many loopholes in this sort of system which can discourage younger golfers because someone can trick the system. That can put one golfer above another, but not because they are better”, said Lewis. Lewis’s daughter Amelia was ranked 3rd on the Women’s Amateur Ranking until going pro 90 days ago. “Players, parents and coaches were always discussing wish lists of ranking features and the pitfalls, as many College Coaches can not accurately evaluate the performance of a prospect junior golf by critically elements, such as yardage, we hope to solve some of those problems”.
The TRC Junior Golf Ranking system will use tournaments in TRC’s junior golf levels 1 through Level 3. The junior golfer is awarded points for how they finish in a golf tournament. If you’re the winner of level 3 you will receive 500 points, second place 400, third place 300 and so on. If you’re the winner of level 2 you will receive 1000 points and receive 2000 for being the winner of level one. With this golfers are awarded based on their talent and performance of the tour. Golfers will know how they got the points and how to create their own destiny with play. It is not always clear with handicap systems how their rank was achieved. With this new points system TRC hopes to inspire and help junior golfers improve their game with a little friendly competition.
To be eligible to access this ranking system you will need to a member of the Tour Resource Center the annual membership cost is $34.95. For more information check out the TourResourceCenter.com.
