TMaG Tour Staff professional Edoardo Molinari Earns Wins Scottish Open Playing R9 SuperTri Driver
CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 12, 2010) – TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff professional Paula Creamer conquered the fairways and greens of storied Oakmont Country Club with her R9 SuperTri driver and Daytona Kia Ma Ghost putter yesterday to win her first major championship, the U.S. Women’s Open. Creamer, 23, finished at three-under and won by four; she was the only competitor to break par.
Fighting a painful thumb that was surgically repaired in March, and which limited her to just 40 warm-up shots before each round, Creamer overcame the distraction to conquer classic U.S. Open conditions – heavy rough, narrow fairways and super-slick greens. Her victory was rooted in four rounds of excellent driving and putting. Her ball-striking peaked on the back nine on Sunday when she hit one solid shot after another down the stretch, leading to crucial back-to-back birdies at the par-four 14th and 15th holes.
“The way Paula played down the stretch to put the tournament away was flat-out fantastic,” said Mark King, TaylorMade-adidas Golf president and CEO. “Her win has made what’s been a great summer for us even better. Her driving and putting, which are so critical at a U.S. Open, were phenomenal, and we’re glad she trusted the R9 SuperTri driver and the new Daytona Kia Ma Ghost putter. We’re incredibly proud of the resilience and toughness she showed in winning her first major championship.”
The Pink Panther, as Creamer is affectionately known, beat the heat and humidity of July in Pennsylvania with the help of adidas Golf’s ClimaCool apparel, and maintained her traction throughout the week by wearing her signature adidas Golf PAULA footwear.
Meanwhile, TMaG Tour Staff professional Edoardo Molinari enjoyed a brilliant tune-up to the Open Championship at St. Andrews, winning the Scottish Open by three strokes to win for the first time on the European Tour. Molinari (-12) relied on an R9 SuperTri driver and Penta TP golf ball to hit 75% of his fairways, which was critical to his success in the often windy and rainy conditions. Fellow TaylorMade Tour Staffer Darren Clarke finished second using the Daytona Ghost putter, earning a coveted berth in this week’s Open Championship. Clarke also won last week’s prestigious J.P. McManus International Pro-Am against a star-studded field.
On the PGA Tour, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Paul Goydos also earned a spot in the Open Championship field with his runner-up at the John Deere Classic. Goydos, who recorded the fourth 59 in PGA Tour history in the first round, will compete in the Open Championship for just the third time in his career.
Quotes: Paula Creamer
“I switched my putter this week. Last week I went through two-putters, and the week before I had a 2-ball. This week I had a Ghost TaylorMade, Daytona putter. I went back to just the standard-looking putter. I think that helped a lot, because there is so much going on in these greens that you just have to focus on that. I was kind of getting a little bit crazy with where my putterface was aiming and all this, and so I switched to my putter this week.”
