ORLANDO, Fla. (July 12, 2010) – Alumni and Friends Golf Challenge (www.alumniandfriendsgolfchallenge.com) has been formed to provide opportunities for groups to play premier golf courses in resort locations as players give back to the school programs of their choice. The initiative is dedicated to supporting and assisting college and high school coaches, booster-club program administrators, conference-operations officers and program supporters nationwide to raise funds by providing a platform while fostering camaraderie and communication.
“We look forward to organizing Challenges for alumni and booster groups at the resort locations of their choosing, for the dual purposes of providing memorable golf experiences and special opportunities to help support the collegiate or scholastic programs of their choice,” said Jim Hames, Alumni and Friends Golf Challenge co-founder and event director. “We invite interested individuals and groups to contact us so we can tailor exciting Challenges to help support their university or high school programs.” Hames is the former executive director of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the professional association of men’s NCAA golf programs.
The organizers of Alumni and Friends Golf Challenge have many years’ experience in golf-tournament operations and program fundraising. Dr. Tim Brown, retired, former athletic director and golf coach at the U. of Delaware and Skidmore College, was a two-time NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year and a past president of the GCAA. John Means, former head golf coach at the U.S. Military Academy and the U. of Minnesota, currently is the women’s head golf coach at the U. of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Means was a National Coach of the Year and a Division I National Championship coach at the U. of Minnesota, as well as a past president of the GCAA.
