SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (July 15, 2010) – Nippon Shaft today congratulated the winner of this year’s U.S. Women’s Open on her four-shot victory Sunday, July 11, at the challenging Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh.
The champion used lightweight N.S. Pro V 90 steel shafts in her Taylor Made R-9 irons (5-PW) and an N.S. Pro WT 7000 graphite shaft in her Taylor Made 7-wood to win the first major championship of her career. She had eight previous LPGA Tour victories.
“Nippon Shaft is proud that such a fine player would rely on our shafts to play in a championship widely regarded as the biggest event of the year in the women’s game,” said Hiroyuki Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft.
The winner was the only player in the field under par for the week. She shot rounds of 72-70-70-69-281 to finish at 3-under, playing through the pain of a surgically repaired ligament in her thumb. She missed one fairway during her final round march around the monstrous par 71track.
Nippon Shaft has more than 100 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokahama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia, where it controls 80 percent of the golf shaft market. In North America, Nippon Shaft is the No. 2-selling steel shaft and is growing.
Nippon Shaft is a subsidiary of privately-held NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Schaumburg, Illinois.
