TEMPE, AZ, July 19, 2010 – Dixon Golf will hold recycling events at both Valley PGA Tour Superstore locations this weekend. The first event will be at the Scottsdale location on Saturday, July 24 from 11a.m. until 3 p.m., on Loop 101 and Shea Blvd. The Chandler store, on Arizona Rd., will be held the following day, July 25, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
All brands of golf balls, aside from range balls will be accepted at both events. Everyone who brings in golf balls to recycle will receive joint $6 gift certificates for new Dixon products, for a total of $12. One participant from each store will win a $250 PGA Tour Superstore gift card. Dixon Golf will also be providing other merchandise giveaways.
Two billion golf balls are produced annually; of that number, more than 300 million are lost or disposed of. Other brands of golf balls use harmful heavy metals, such as tungsten, lead, cobalt and zinc. The Dixon balls do not utilize heavy metals, and have created a recyclable proprietary polymer.
The Dixon Golf balls collected will be recycled into a reusable material, utilized in the manufacturing of playground equipment and field turf. All other brands of golf balls will be used to research their recyclability and possible application after being turned into reusable form. PGA Tour Superstores and other retailers will regularly have small, countertop receptacles for collecting used golf balls.
