To conquer the world, golfers can start at the semi-private Trails of Frisco Golf Club in Frisco, which will host an 18-hole qualifying at 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 10 for the World Golfers Championship. The event will be open to DFW Senior Tour members along with Golf One Reward members as part of the ESPN Golf Connection Tour, their guests and members of the host club.

The par 71 Jeff Brauer design features dramatic bunkering, scenic wetlands and large undulating Champion Bermuda greens. Adding to the challenge, water comes into play on 17 holes.

“With four different tee boxes, we will set up the course to fit all players based on their respective flights,” said tournament director James McAfee. Call him at 214 724-1261 if interested in playing.

The top two in each of the five handicap categories-0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25-will advance to the U.S. finals, scheduled Sept. 9-12 on the The Red and The Gold Courses at The Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa in Litchfield, AZ.

The Red meanders alongside streams and ponds between pines, cypress and eucalyptus trees, playing 6,852 yards with a course rating of 72.4 and slope of 126 from the blues, 6,291 yards with 69.4 and 118 numbers from the whites and 5,806 yards with 71.6 and 118 numbers from the reds.

The Gold was Jones’ West Coast version of the Firestone South Course and can be stretched to 7,430 yards with a course rating of 74.5 and 135. “Don’t worry, we aren’t playing back there,” said McAfee. It plays 6,830 yards with 72.3 and 130 numbers from the Championship tees, 6,348 yards with 70.0 and 125 numbers and 5,885 yards with 72.3 and 119 numbers for women.

Then the five flight winners in this 36-hole competition earn expense-paid trips to Hua-Hin, Thailand to represent the U.S. in the 16th annual World Golfers Championship, scheduled Oct. 30-Nov. 6 at the Black Mountain Golf Club, named the best course in Thailand, along with the Banyan Golf Club, the Palm Hills Golf Club and the Springfield Royal Country Club. The Holiday Inn Resort will serve as the tournament headquarters for the event expected to draw teams from 35 countries.
