ORLANDO, Fla. (July 22, 2010) – The Golf Channel Am Tour is set to conduct a two-day major championship at TPC Sawgrass Saturday and Sunday, featuring a full-field of 186 amateur players from throughout the country competing for the right to qualify for the 2010 national championships.
The TPC Sawgrass Open Major will be contested on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course – host to THE PLAYERS Championship on the PGA TOUR – and neighboring Dye’s Valley Course. The tournament will feature 11 handicapped flights, with the top-three individuals from each flight automatically qualifying for the 2010 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships, also taking place at TPC Sawgrass, in September. The first round of stroke play will begin Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET on both courses.
“The Golf Channel Am Tour is an amazing opportunity for non-professional golfers to play on a tour comparable to the PGA TOUR, and we are excited to be playing on the same course that hosts THE PLAYERS Championship,” said Kenny Booth, Golf Channel Am Tour national tournament director.
As the largest amateur golf tour in North America, the Golf Channel Am Tour is open to the public and provides the most professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as offering unparalleled access to some of the most renowned and challenging golf courses across the country.
