Stracka Golf is teaming up with the World Golfers Championship to provide additional opportunities for its members to earn the chance of a lifetime, representing their country in an international competition.
Interested golfers can play a round at their own golf courses and then post the scores online at ww.stracka.com until Aug. 8.
The winners in each of five flights (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25) will earn Stracka bonus points and trips to Litchfield, AZ Sept. 9-12 for the United States finals at the Wigwam Resort. There they will join qualifiers from other qualifying events across the U.S. to play The Red, designed by Robert (Red) Lawrence, and The Gold, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
One winner with the best 36-hole net score from each of the five handicap categories will then earn expense-paid trips to Hua-Hin, Thailand for the World Golfers Championship, scheduled Oct. 30-Nov. 6. More than 40 countries will be represented. The United State Golf Association has approved the event and golfers will not lose their amateur status by participating and receiving expenses.
Black Mountain Golf Club, named the best course in Thailand, along with the Banyan Golf Club, the Palm Hills Golf Club and the Springfield Royal Country Club will host the golfers while the The Holiday Inn Resort will serve as the tournament headquarters.
“The true Olympic golf event takes place at the World Golfers Championship,” said Anders Bengtson of World Golfers USA. . “It’s where amateurs compete on equal terms just the way Pierre de Coubertin visioned it when he created the Olympics.”
The tournament was started 15 years ago by International Hockey Hall of Fame member Sven Tumba of Sweden, who wanted to give amateur golfers of all ability levels the chances to experience the dreams of a lifetime, representing their respective countries in an international competition.
