Field of 132 will include local, national talent at Centennial Golf Club
BRASELTON, Ga. – The American Junior Golf Association has added a new Open event in Oregon to its 85-tournament schedule, allowing for more playing opportunities in the Pacific Northwest region. Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore., will host 132 of the world’s best junior golfers for the 54-hole AJGA Junior at Centennial, Aug. 16-19.
“Adding this event to our schedule provides our members the opportunity to play a spectacular golf course in one of the most beautiful cities in the country,” said AJGA Regional Director Larry Berroya. “It also provides additional playing opportunities for our members in the Pacific Northwest, California, and throughout the West region.”
The AJGA’s last event in Oregon was held in 2006 at another OB Sports-managed facility, Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora. The Montverde Junior All-Star Invitational had a three-year stint and produced an impressive list of champions who have gone on to successful college careers, including Mu Hu (Florida), Bud Cauley (Alabama), Natalie Sheary (Wake Forest), and Taylore Karle (Pepperdine).
The first round of play for the AJGA Junior at Centennial will begin Tuesday, Aug. 17. The first wave of tee times will run from 7:30 to 9 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees with a second wave going off from 12:30 – 2 p.m. at Centennial Golf Club. After Wednesday’s second round, the field will be cut to a minimum of 40 percent and ties. Final-round tee times will run from 7:30 – 9:27 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees, Thursday, Aug. 19. An awards ceremony will be held following the final round. All are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
Prior to the event, an 18-hole K12 Qualifier will be held Aug. 15, at Centennial Golf Club. K12 Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to play their way in to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or build status for entry into a future event. The K12 Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.
