ORLANDO, Fla. (July 29, 2010) – The Golf Channel Am Tour is set to conduct a two-day major championship, the Western Classic, Saturday and Sunday, featuring a full-field of 120 amateur players from throughout the country competing for the right to qualify for the national championships.

The Western Classic will be contested on the Lexington Golf Course at Revere Country Club in Las Vegas. The tournament will feature 11 handicapped flights, with the top-three individuals from each flight automatically qualifying for the 2010 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships at TPC Sawgrass in September. The first round of stroke play will begin Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET.

The field will feature players from a western-region record of 16 states. Those competing will include Greg Coleman, the 2007 National Champion in the Jones Flight; Paul Erdman, a talented golfer in the Championship Flight who could be the first Coloradan to win; and former member of the Military, Keir deAnda who is playing his first Am Tour event.

Following the conclusion of Sunday’s second round of play, an awards ceremony will take place at the Lexington Course.

As the largest amateur golf tour in North America, the Golf Channel Am Tour is open to the public and provides the most professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as offering unparalleled access to some of the most renowned and challenging golf courses across the country.
