Orlando, Fla. (August 3, 2010) – Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam and the ANNIKA Foundation have partnered with the President’s Challenge Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program (President’s Challenge). The ANNIKA Foundation will utilize the President’s Challenge as a motivational tool to complement its physical activity and fitness initiatives.
The goal of the partnership is to encourage schools in Florida to participate in the President’s Challenge so they can be recognized by both the President’s Council and the ANNIKA Foundation for being successful in increasing physical activity and improving nutrition in their schools.
“The President’s Challenge and my Foundation have exactly the same objective – to get kids physically active so they can lead healthy lives,” says Annika. “This is our first step working with the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports to challenge all kids to become more physically active.”
Current ANNIKA Foundation fitness initiatives include a partnership with SPARK, a leading fitness and nutrition program that works to positively affect fitness and influence healthy behaviors among pre-kindergarten through 12th grade children in school and after-school settings. The award-winning wellness program teaches kids the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle. The new partnership with the President’s Challenge will serve as an incentive for all schools who implement SPARK to strive to obtain the Presidential Awards so they can be recognized by both the ANNIKA Foundation and President’s Council.
The ANNIKA Foundation will continue to seek opportunities to incorporate the President’s Challenge into all future initiatives developed by the Foundation.
