Nation’s Largest Specialty Golf Retailer Opening 31,000-Square Foot, Interactive Store
AUSTIN, TEXAS- August 04, 2010—Golfers in Boca Raton will soon get to feel, try-out, and experience the most advanced golf equipment in the largest interactive golf and tennis retail store to ever open in the city. The nation’s largest golfing specialty retailer, Golfsmith International Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: GOLF), announced today it plans to open in the area of Glades Road and State Route 7 in Boca Raton, Florida in early 2011. The new store is expected to employ up to 25 people when fully operational.
Golfsmith’s unique retail concept offers an interactive playground for golfers staffed by those who know the game and have the know-how to properly outfit players. The new Boca Raton store will feature an indoor golf driving range with multiple hitting bays, a large indoor putting green, and two “virtual reality” custom fitting studios used to match any golfer with custom-fit clubs for his/her game. Custom fitting is one of the fastest growing sales categories for Golfsmith. The company traces its roots to manufacturing custom-fit clubs in 1967. A full-service tennis department will also be available offering a complete line of tennis services, equipment and clothing.
“Golfsmith is all about helping customers play better. Our exclusive custom fitting process and our expert associates inspire and improve our customers’ performances,” said Marty Hanaka, president and CEO of Golfsmith. “Boca Raton is a hotbed for golfers and tennis players and we’re proud to bring a whole new golf and tennis retail experience to the Boca area,” he added.
The new Golfsmith store will also house GolfTEC®, the world’s leader in golf instruction. GolfTEC offers one-on-one indoor instruction by PGA teaching professionals who provide coaching and advanced instruction using high-speed video, motion measurement, and biofeedback to improve swing as well as overall performance.
The Boca Raton store is part of a new growth strategy by the Texas-based retailer. Golfsmith plans to open up to 14 new stores throughout the country over the next two years. This will be Golfsmith’s seventh location in Florida.
“We offer the industry’s newest and best equipment at the lowest prices guaranteed,” Hanaka added. “We have set the industry standard on effectively servicing customers and dispelled the myth of big box impersonalization. Wherever Golfsmith enters a market, we have a positive impact on the retail landscape for golfers. Our golf professionals offer customers personalized service and provide the best guidance on how to get better at the games they love.”
