Biloxi, MS, August 11th, 2010: The Yamaha Mississippi Gulf Coast Open Championship has seen a “who’s who” of past champions for nearly 50 years – from local professionals to local amateurs. This year’s event is being played August 13-15 at David Love III’s “Shell Landing,” Arnold Palmer’s “The Bridges” and Mark McCumber’s “Windance C.C.” and will host players from 9 states – so there is no guarantee it will be a local player winning this prestigious championship this year. With a field of just under 140 – a record – and over a $13,000 purse – we want people to follow the action with live scoring as they come in “real time” on www.GolfCoast.com. Yamaha Golf Cars stepping in to be a title sponsor this year, has turned this once prestigious local event into a regional major championship because it is the only true “open” in the entire Gulf Coast region that allows any amateur or professional to enter and compete for the championship. Steve Wilson, 2008 USGA Mid -Am Champion and multiple winner of the Coast Open as an amateur, has decided to enter this year’s event as a professional. “Scott Jackson, owner of Nevada Bob’s here on the Coast, and I will teach golf on the new trackman system on the coast soon”, Says Steve Wilson, “so I will no longer be an amateur and thought the Coast Open would be a great event for me to first enter as a professional,” says Wilson.
“This year’s Coast Amateur Champion and 2009 Coast Open co-runner up, Lane Pippen will lead off this year’s event with many other notable players like Duke Simmons, David Lee, Phil Schmitt and David Church,” says Jeremy Davis, Tournament Director.
