Columbus, Ohio – Sterling Sports Management (“Sterling”) congratulates our newest client, Jennifer Song for her 2nd win of the summer and as a professional. The 2009 US Women’s Amateur & US Women’s Amateur Public Links Champion, won the Greater Richmond Golf Classic to climb to #4 on the Duramed Futures Tour (“DFT”) Money List, virtually assuring her of earning her LPGA Tour card for 2011.
Jennifer Song has only been a pro for 2 months but her professional record may soon surpass her amateur record, and then some. After a highly decorated collegiate career at the University of Southern California, Jennifer Song turned pro in June and promptly won her first pro tournament, the Tate & Lyle Players Championship (the DFT’s only major) by 6 strokes. On Sunday, in her 8th start as a professional, Song won her second tournament and, with only one event remaining, may earn the distinction as the player who earned LPGA Tour status in the fewest DFT tournaments (8). Only 2 other players have earned their LPGA Tour cards in half a season after finishing their college seasons, Lorena Ochoa and Grace Park, who each played 10 DFT events.
In 2009, as a freshman, Jennifer Song finished the NCAA season as the #1 ranked player in women’s college golf and as the #1 ranked amateur golfer. Song also won the Golfstat Cup for best scoring average and topped the year off by doing something that had only been done one other time in the history of women’s golf – she won both the US Women’s Amateur and the US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships in the same year! This year, Song played on the winning United States team, in both the prestigious Curtis Cup, and in the Copa de las Americas, and was nominated for the Sullivan Award, an award that is presented to the top amateur athlete in the entire country. Song played in 4 LPGA “majors” as an amateur and finished as Low Amateur in 3 of them.
J.S. Kang, Sterling’s Vice President, stated, “Jennifer is not just an incredible golfer, but at only 20 years of age, she already sees the big picture. She wants to make a difference in the lives of those she comes in contact with by donating a substantial portion of her winnings. Judging by her results so far, her impact will be large indeed. In college, she finished either 1st or 2nd in almost half (45%) of her tournaments. As a pro, she has won twice and has finished in the top 5 more than 70% of the time. That’s what I call a blue chip prospect! The LPGA will be adding a very special person next year!”
