Port Washington, WI (August 12, 2010) – Allen Edmonds Shoe Corporation is reporting rave reviews from competitors who have received its Player’s Shoe, complete with personalized cedar shoe trees, as a gift at the 92nd PGA Championship. The new style is making its debut at the tournament being held at Whistling Straits in Kohler, WI, August 9 – 15.
Combining Allen Edmonds’ signature handcrafting construction processes with classic American styling, the Player’s Shoe is a wingtip, made of suede and available in five colors. Each is laser engraved on the insole and outsole with the 2010 PGA Championship logo, under which is added, “The Player’s Shoe, handcrafted in the U.S.A by Allen Edmonds.” The shoe style will be available to the public in late 2010.
Players were able to choose their favorite shoe color including sand, white, chocolate, dark chocolate and blue suede. Allen Edmonds reported the competitors’ choices spanned the array of colors offered with dark chocolate being the overwhelming favorite:
56% Dark Chocolate
15% Sand
11% White
10% Chocolate
8% Blue
“The competitors really loved the Player’s Shoe and thought the wing tip pattern in suede is very stylish,” said Dirk Willis, PGA Director of Golf at Whistling Straits. “It was interesting to watch them pick their favorite colors. There was a lot of debate and I think the dark chocolate won out because we’re heading into the fall season.”
Customized cedar shoe trees were included with the shoes presented at the tournament. The shoe trees are laser engraved with the 2010 PGA Championship logo and each contestant’s name. They are made of heartwood aromatic cedar harvested from the south central United States and produced in Allen Edmonds’ Port Washington, Wisconsin manufacturing facility.
“The pros were very intrigued that these shoes were being hand made at our factory in nearby Port Washington, Wisconsin during the practice rounds and were delivered to their lockers, rather than shipped after the tournament, “says Colin Hall, Chief Marketing Officer at Allen Edmonds. “The competitors thought the shoe trees were a nice added touch to the gift.”
The Player’s Shoe is constructed with all of the sophisticated and durable features that distinguish Allen Edmonds’ finest styles: 360 degree Goodyear welt; full cork footbed; all leather upper, lining, insole and sole; toasted sole edges, a new feature for the 2011 line; double thickness in the leather soles; and MacAfee (split) heels. Players were able to choose their favorite shoe color including sand, white, chocolate, dark chocolate and blue suede. Like many Allen Edmonds shoes, this style is eligible for their Recrafting™ process. Shoe trees are an important accessory for increasing the life of a shoe; they reduce wrinkles and creases, absorb moisture and deodorize the shoes.
In celebration of the 2010 PGA Championship, during the week of the event Allen Edmonds’ Port Washington Factory Outlet is offering PGA Championship specials, including $50 off first quality shoes, $30 off second quality shoes and 25% off all accessories. The outlet store is located just one minute off Highway 43 en route to Kohler from Chicago or Milwaukee.
