August 18, 2010; Phoenix, Arizona: With its second major putter win of the year at last week’s PGA Championship, PING has now captured 52 majors in its 51-year history, PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim announced today.

The winning putter was an Anser®2 model from the Karsten® Series, the first major title for this stainless steel putter. It was the second-consecutive major win for a PING® putter. Last month’s British Open Championship was won with a Redwood® Anser® model.

“PING putters have a long tradition of winning major championships,” said Solheim. “I remember the first major win back in 1969 at The Masters. It was a very significant event for us as the Anser was just making a name for itself. Now, all these years later, wins of this magnitude are still very important. We’re extremely pleased to have two major putter wins this year. Both champions will be receiving solid-gold putter heads of their winning models as lasting memories of their victories.”

That first win at the 1969 Masters helped propel the PING® Anser® putter – only two years on the market at the time – to its current status as the winningest putter model in golf, with more than 400 wins to its credit, including 17 majors. Since then, nine more Masters champions have relied on a PING® putter, including Angel Cabrera, the 2009 winner who used an i-Series® ½ Craz-E® B.

The British Open Championship, with 17 wins since 1969, leads the four majors in PING® putter wins. Its most recent title is this year’s, in which PING Pro Louis Oosthuizen and his Redwood® Anser® model dominated the field with a seven-stroke victory. The PGA Championship follows with 14 victories since a PING® putter was used to win the 1981 edition. After first winning in 1970, eleven U.S. Open champions, including PING pro Cabrera in 2007, have relied on PING putters.

In 1988, PING® putters were used to win all four major championships – the only putter brand to accomplish that feat in modern history.
