Pete Dye course also ranked No. 1 in Indiana!
French Lick, IN – The awards and accolades continue to role in for America’s newest golf destination. The new award winning Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Southern Indiana has made its debut on GOLF Magazine’s elite Top 100 You Can Play list. The biennial list of America’s top public courses appeared in the September 2010 issue.
The Pete Dye course joined six other top courses debuting on the list including Old Macdonald at Bandon Dunes, Cog Hill in Chicago, Mauna Kea in Hawaii, Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan, Southern Dunes in Scottsdale, and Tobacco Road in North Carolina.
In addition, GOLF Magazine also selected the Pete Dye course as the No. 1 course in Indiana, and ranked the historic Donald Ross course No. 5 in the state. The classic Ross course hosted the 1924 PGA Championship and recently competed a multi-million dollar restoration.
“We are very honored to be recognized among the top courses in the country, as well as having the No. 1 and No. 5 best courses in Indiana by GOLF Magazine,” said Dave Harner, French Lick Resort’s director of golf. “These rankings and the combination of the Dye and Ross courses continue to solidify French Lick Resort as one of the elite golf resort destinations in the country.”
“Pete Dye once said, “golfers love punishment.” They’ll find it at his latest frightfest in Dye’s home state of Indiana. The layout bludgeons players with more than 8,100 hilly yards, volcano bunkers and ridge-top fairways framed by steep, rough-choked drop-offs,” GOLF Magazine stated. “This controversial winner of our 2009 Best New Course You Can Play is relentlessly hard, but the shot-making demands make it a must-play for anybody who can get the ball airborne.”
The new Pete Dye course is located on a dramatic site that looks more like the rolling mountains of North Carolina than the flatlands of Indiana. The course is situated upon a hilltop – one of the highest points in the state – offering panoramic views in all directions that stretch for 30-40 miles.
French Lick Resort is the only resort in the world that offers the classic history of its original course, a 1917 Donald Ross creation, and Dye’s modern-day design. This combination by two legendary Hall of Fame architects is a rare opportunity for golfers to experience the best pairing of unique golf courses found anywhere in the country.
