LAKE MARY, FL — A 17-year-old senior at Lake Mary Prep was not very kind to his elders on Sunday in the Lake Mary City Golf Championship at Timacuan Golf Club.
Owen Curry shot an even-par 72 from the back tees over the Ron Garl design to win the city title by two shots over runner-up Jay Sampsell. John Henry was third at 76.
“I didn’t make as many putts as I would have liked, but overall I played pretty well,” said Curry, a member at Heathrow Country Club and a native of Colchester, England.
“Timacuan is a great golf course and is in good condition. It is a strategic layout. You have to play the par fives well, and if you do that you shoot a good score.”
Curry had 14 pars to go with two birdies and two bogeys. He secured the title with birdies on 10 and 12.
Finishing tied for fourth at 78 were Chris Parone and Josh Strausbaugh, followed by Mike Shields at 79.
