The Northern California PGA Foundation, dedicated to providing resources to golf programs that enrich life’s positive values, paid tribute to two of golf’s legends PGA TOUR player Tom Watson and golf Icon Sandy Tatum as this year’s honorees of “is year’se toat Spanish Bay Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum as 2010’s honorees of The LangleyThe Langley: A Tribute to Legends” at The Links at Spanish Bay.
“We’re very proud to welcome Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum to our NCPGA family of honorees,” explained Chris Thomas, NCPGA executive director and COO. “The Langley is our highest profile event that raises funds for worthy charitable community programs such as The Folds of Honor Foundation, Saving Strokes, and educational scholarships.”
The NCPGA Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives and communities of those in Northern California and Northwestern Nevada. Programs that have benefited include Saving Strokes, which uses golf as a rehabilitative tool for people who have had stroke; junior golf programs, which support youth who may not afford the opportunity to learn to play the game and the many social and life skills associated; and programs for the disabled that help those who may have been denied access.
“The PGA TOUR has contributed over one billion dollars to charity,” Tom Watson revealed. “It is gratifying to be a part of that effort and it’s satisfying to be able to support the worthwhile endeavors of the Northern California PGA and all their beneficiaries.”
Tatum furthered those sentiments by saying, “At 90 years old, I’ve been involved with a number of very useful charitable ventures. That experience adds to my pleasure in support of the work of my friends at the NorCal PGA, and to the honor of being so associated with Jim Langley.”
In its third year, The Langley has won the support of many, including its first two honorees Arnold Palmer and Ken Venturi who also are recognized as friends of the tournament’s namesake, Jim Langley, former PGA TOUR player and long-time head golf professional at Cypress Point Club.
Langley said, “I want to join the management and staff of the NCPGA in thanking everyone who has helped to bring national exposure to our fundraising efforts. We will work tirelessly in support of worthwhile charities here on the Monterey Peninsula, as well as throughout Northern California and Northwestern Nevada.”
This year, The Langley welcomed a number of new sponsors including title sponsor CIG Insurance Group. CEO Peter Cazzolla said, “We relish the opportunity to join hands with the NCPGA Foundation in support of their charitable efforts. Our company has a rich history of supporting the underserved and we look forward to a long relationship with the Foundation.”
This year’s The Langley gala and golf tournament were held at The Links at Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach, California on August 30 and 31.
