LAKEWOOD, Wash. (Aug. 31, 2010) – Golfers and non-golfers are invited to join the American Lake Veterans Golf Course “Force of Volunteers” on Friday, Sept. 10 at a special tournament to commemorate 9-11 and to raise money for the course that caters to wounded and disabled veterans.
Golfers may register as individuals ($175), twosomes ($300), or foursomes ($500) and their choice of a morning or afternoon time. The scramble format tournament includes a barbecue lunch and opportunity to compete in several skills contests while playing. Mulligans, raffle tickets, T-shirts and ALVCC caps will be available for purchase.
Non-golfers can also join the “Force of Volunteers” by sponsoring a Wounded Warriors foursome for a fee of $500, sponsoring a hole or making a direct donation.
All contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law and will be earmarked for Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course, a 501(c)3 organization.
American Lake Veterans Golf Course embarked on a multi-million dollar capital campaign last year to raise funds for expanding and improving the facility, including the construction of nine new holes to supplement the existing nine hole layout. Jack Nicklaus and the design firm that bears his name are donating design services for the new nine. Funds raised at the Sept. 10 tournament will also help enhance the accessibility of existing facilities, and support maintenance and operation needs.
Volunteers have maintained and operated American Lake Veterans Golf Course since 1995, when federal funding was cut for it and other courses built on Veterans Administration hospital grounds. ALVGC is adjacent to American Lake Veterans Hospital, part of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Lakewood (Pierce County).
The Sept. 10 tournament is co-hosted by PGA golf professional Ken Still and state Sports Hall of Famer Stan Naccarato, a well-known sports promoter and fundraiser.
