BALTIMORE, MD. – September 7, 2010 – STX, world-renowned as an industry pioneer in putter innovation, and for its patented Soft Face Insert Technology, announced today that four of their 2010 STX Putter models received the prestigious “Players Choice” award from Golfing Magazine.
According to STX Director of Golf Steve Henneman, “STX is thrilled to receive such high rankings and terrific feedback the Golfing Magazine testers. They represent average golfers who can benefit the most from our Soft Face Insert Technology.”
STX had three putters tested in the blade category; the 9740, 9750, and the ProFit 5 Putter. All three received an 8.6 — the highest ranking for distance and control. Each was presented with the “Best Distance Control” award. This distinguished honor can be credited directly to the STX Soft Face Insert Technology. These inserts cradle the golf ball three times longer than metal face putters and nearly twice as long as other insert putters. This increased “dwell time” means better control, less skidding and a truer roll.
The STX ProFit 6 Putter was tested in the mallet category and received the “Best Appearance” and “Best Impact Feel” award. STX has garnered a reputation for blending art with technology. This award embodies the company philosophy but again the real hero is the STX Soft Face Insert Technology which contributed to the “Best Impact Feel” award.
The chemical composition of the STX inserts provides the signature STX “Feel”. They “hold” the ball longer with the putter face. This “dwell” time imparts topspin and improves the feel of the putter.
Testing shows STX Putters have almost twice the dwell time of putters with harder inserts and nearly three times the dwell time of metal faced putters. The difference is due to the relatively high coefficient of friction of STX’s inserts.
For a variety of responses and feel, STX Putters are available in the black, red and green insert options. STX offers better putting through chemistry. The black insert is the softest in the STX line. It delivers the highest friction and resilience rate plus increased dwell time. Those characteristics are chemically formulated to get the ball rolling sooner and keep your putts on line. For a medium resiliency rate, the red insert offers an intermediate amount of dwell time for true control. And, for golfers who prefer a firmer feel, the green insert provides a harder feel with less resilience.
The “Players Choice” award is presented by Golfing Magazine, a national publication which reaches the active golfer in major regional markets. As the name indicates, the “Players Choice” awards are determined by the magazine’s reader/play testers not its staff. The idea is to have average or typical golfers test the equipment and for their evaluations to be published. PGA Professionals manage and assist in the subjective exercise.
About STX
STX is acknowledged as being the golf industry’s foremost authority on insert face technology. Over a quarter century ago, the company introduced the first patented soft face elastomer insert, creating the “softest legal face in golf.” In the mid-90s the company’s research and development team introduced the first USGA approved interchangeable face insert and removable weight system. Both these and other innovations have helped create the standards for putter design today.
