Former head golf professional promoted to assume leadership role at Ohio’s No. 1 course
(NASHPORT, Ohio) – Longaberger Golf Club announces the promotion of Head Golf Professional Danny Ackerman to General Manager, effective immediately.
Ackerman, who has led the golf operations team at Longaberger since the club opened in 1999, will guide all operations at Ohio’s No. 1 golf course, including golf operations and course management, food and beverage, banquets, clubhouse operations, and management of over 100 staff members.
“Danny’s outstanding record of delivering revenue, driving staff loyalty, embracing innovative marketing strategies and producing nationally-recognized golf events at the club made him the right choice,” said Nick Bednar, Regional Manager of Billy Casper Golf, who manages the property for The Longaberger Company.
Ackerman, a native of Wheeling, W.Va., was a member of the West Virginia University golf team, and won the National Father-Son Championship with his dad in 1984. A PGA Class-A 1 Professional, he began his golf career as an instructor and professional at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina in 1985. He moved to Ohio in 1997, serving as general manager and director of golf at Quail Hollow Resort and Country Club in Concord, Ohio for two years, before joining the Longaberger team.
“It’s been a great honor to be at Longaberger Golf Club since its inception,” said Ackerman. “To see it rise to the top spot in Ohio and maintain that position is a credit to the staff and management. I’m looking forward to guiding its growth.”
GOLF Magazine recently named Longaberger Golf Club to its Top 100 Courses You Can Play national listing, giving the course additional honors as Best Course in Ohio and Best Value in the Top 100.
The golf course has hosted many statewide and national events during Ackerman’s tenure, including the 1999 Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf and 2004 National Club Pro Championship. In 2005, Zagat Surveys awarded Longaberger the #1 Public Service Course in America. In 2009, Golf World granted Longaberger its “Best Service Award” among more than 700 public courses in the nation.
Ackerman has been an active and recognized member of the Southern Ohio PGA Section as well, winning the coveted Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2005. He was also named Southern Ohio PGA Merchandiser of the Year from 2001 to 2005.
Longaberger Golf Club is owned by The Longaberger Company. Regularly honored by Golfweek, Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine as one of the nation’s finest courses, Longaberger also was named a Top 10 public-access course in the country in the 2010 edition of the Golf World magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards.
