ORLANDO, Fla., (Sept. 9, 2010) – TurfNet and Aquatrols, two leaders in the golf course maintenance industry, today announced a partnership to present Water Week, an educational program aimed at helping golf course superintendents improve their water-use efficiency by providing them with useful information, advice and tips through a series of five free webinars.
Water Week – which will feature one webinar per day from Oct. 18-Oct. 22 – is designed to help superintendents get a better handle on water use and soil management, while also allowing members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GSCAA) to earn education points.
“Water use on golf courses is coming under increasingly frequent scrutiny and regulation,” said Peter McCormick, founder and general manager of TurfNet. “At the same time, golf course superintendents are being pressured by golfers to produce exacting playing surfaces without regard to considerations like water quality and availability. Water Week is intended to help superintendents satisfy both parties by maximizing water-use efficiency while maintaining optimum playing surfaces.”
The lineup for Water Week is as follows:
• Physical Soil Properties: Balance is Key – Robert Oppold of International Sports Turf Research Center shows you how to identify the soil properties of your course and what you can do to ensure your turf is getting adequate oxygen and nutrients.
• Soil & Water Quality: What You Don’t Know Could Hurt You – Dr. Tom Boerth reviews the basics of soil chemistry, soil science and plant nutrition and how these factors can be affected by the quality of your soil and water.
• Soil Surfactant Overview with Straight Talk on Commonalities & Differences – Andy Moore provides an overview of the functions and abilities of different types of soil surfactants, as well as the keys to identifying water movement issues on your course.
• Control Your Water, Control Your Results – Larry Lennert focuses on determining the proper amount of irrigation water needed for your golf course and the efficiency of your delivery system.
• Opportunities for Irrigation Efficiency & Conserving Water – Demie Moore gives superintendents information that will help them identify areas where they can reduce water use, saving natural and financial resources.
“Aquatrols is pleased to be partnering with Turfnet to help turf professionals earn their GCSAA education credits with topics that are timely and can be applied day to day on their courses,” said Andy Moore, Aquatrols’ director of marketing. “These non-commercial presentations span topics from soil and water quality and rootzone management to effective conservation ideas. With all of the challenges superintendents are facing to maintain their courses in great condition while under weather and budget pressures, we want to let them know that we have some tools that can help them.”
All five presentations are free and open to GCSAA members and non-members alike. Visit Turfnet.com/WaterWeek to register for this unique program today.
