(ST. AUGUSTINE, FL) – St. Johns Golf & Country Club – owned by Billy Casper Golf – will host the Golf Channel Amateur Tour National Championships, September 21-29.
St. Johns is in elite company with tournament co-hosts TPC Sawgrass and World Golf Village’s Slammer & Squire Course, all located in the greater Jacksonville area.
The National Championships – divided into two events, the Senior National Championship and Open National Championship – will be contested among a record 946 players. They range in age from 15 to 77 and represent the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.
In recent years, St. Johns has hosted six USGA Public Links Qualifier and five consecutive PGA TOUR Q-School tournaments.
“We are thrilled the Golf Channel selected St. Johns for this prestigious event,” says Dan Zimmer, General Manager of St. Johns. “This is testament to the high quality of course conditions, challenging layout and personal service at St. Johns.”
St. Johns, a Clyde Johnston-designed course located just north of St. Augustine, is a gem that attracts golfers from across the southeastern United States. Carved out of a pine forest, the course offers a great test for every skill level. From the championship tees, the course is a decidedly robust par-72 playing 7,236 yards with occasionally arduous wind patterns.
In 2009, St. Johns was designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International for its high standards protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of golf. According to Audubon International, St. Johns is one of a handful of courses in the Jacksonville area to achieve certification, joining the elite TPC Sawgrass, Amelia Island Plantation, The Palencia Club and Bent Creek Golf Course.
The largest amateur golf tour in North America, the Golf Channel Amateur Tour is open to the public and provides a professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities as well as offering unparalleled access to some of the most renowned golf courses across the country.
