Bangkok (September 21): With exactly one-month before the staging of the 2010 Asia Pacific Golf Summit, the bustling city of Bangkok is ready to stage the region’s most important annual gathering of the movers and shakers of the golf industry.
Bangkok will play host to a total of three major international golf events in October and these events are:
• 2010 Asia Pacific Golf Summit – October 18-20.
• 2010 Asia Pacific Golf Industry Show – October 18-20.
• The Inaugural Golf Course Superintendents of Asia Summit – October 15-17.
In a major show of support, the government of Thailand has assembled a high-level task force to address the needs of these events. “We consider the golf industry as a very important business sector and it is our aim to work together with the organizers of these events to transform Bangkok into Asia’s Golf Hub,” declared Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
The head of the task force, Mr. Sansern Ngaorungsi echoed this sentiment and said, “Over the next 18 months, Bangkok will be hosting a total of nine golf related conferences and exhibitions and this is clear proof that Thailand is well on its way to becoming the most important business centre for golf in Asia.”
“We are indeed delighted to have the members of the task force working with us to grow our events in Asia,” said Mike Sebastian, managing director of the Asia Pacific Golf Development Conferences, the owner and producer of all the golf conferences and events scheduled to be staged in Bangkok.
The Task Force partners include the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
The celebrity guests who will be headlining this year’s Summit include golf legends Gary Player, Greg Norman and Annika Sorenstam.
Other notables from the global golf industry who will be appearing on the programme include Hud Hinton, President and CEO of Troon Golf and Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. – executive director of The First Tee.
“A total of 55 world class speakers and panelists have been assembled to address the three-day Summit and we expect a good turn-out of the golf industry in the Asia Pacific,” said Sebastian
