PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 17, 2010) – There are many national championships that are contested in the world of golf but one of the most amazing is the Blind Golfers Championship, which will be held for the 65th year September 26-29. Edgmont Country Club, in the western suburbs of Philadelphia is the site and the GolfTalk Live radio show will be there live to kick off the entire event.
On Friday night, September 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., GolfTalk Live along with the management of Edgmont Country Club will host a special live remote broadcast of the weekly award-winning radio show on WNTP 990-AM in Philadelphia. The show will be taped and aired at its regular time – 7 to 8 a.m. – on WNTP and www.wntp.com.
Members as well as the general public are invited to this event. There is no charge for admission.
GolfTalk Live host Tony Leodora will record his weekly show from 5:30 to 6:30, then stay around to ask some trivia questions, give away some prizes and talk golf.
Edgmont has taken on a huge role, in hosting the 65th U.S. Blind Golfers Championship. The club has been tied to the event since 1967 when then-owners Tiny Pedone and Nazz Mariani, both deceased, hosted the Hope for the Blind Golf Tournament. At the tournament banquet Bob Hope served as Master of Ceremonies.
The event will begin on Sunday, September 26 with practice rounds and a meet-and-greet dinner. The 36-hole championship will be played on Monday and Tuesday. The public is welcome to attend.
Edgmont CC is a private country club that is owned and operated by the Mariani family. The golf course was known for years as the home course of PGA Tour and Champions Tour player Ed Dougherty.
The GolfTalk Live radio show also has a prestigious history.
For the third time in the last four years, the GolfTalk Live radio show was honored as one of the top golf radio shows in America by the International Network of Golf. At the annual Media Awards presentation by the International Network of Golf during the January’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, GolfTalk Live received the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award in the radio category.
