Alabama Replaces USC as Top Team in D-I Poll
NEW YORK, NY-The second Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the October 4 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online at:http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/blogs/campusinsider
After an impressive victory at the NCAA Fall Preview, Alabama moved into the top spot in the Division I poll, securing 21 of the 29 first-place votes. The Crimson Tide shot a school-record 15-under 849 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Tex., site of next spring’s NCAA Championship. Two different Alabama players-Brooke Pancake and Camilla Lennarth-shot 65s during the tournament, each setting the school’s 18-hole scoring mark in the process.
USC, No. 1 in the preseason poll, dropped down to No. 2 after finishing third at the Fall Preview. The Trojans still claimed four first-place votes.
Duke sits in the No. 3 spot, while LSU moved up from No. 16 to No. 4 after finishing in second place at the NCAA Preview. The Tigers then came back this past weekend to win the team title at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship.
UCLA rounds out the top-five, securing two first-place votes.
Georgia (No. 6) jumped into the top-10, after being ranked No. 13 in the preseason coaches’ poll.
North Carolina (No. 11), Oregon (No. 13), Tulane (No. 14) Ohio State (No. 18) and Colorado (No. 21) moved into the top-25.
