Oklahoma State Retains Top Spot in D-I Poll
NEW YORK, NY- The second Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, will appear in the October 4 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online at:http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/blogs/campusinsider.
Oklahoma State remains the number one team in the poll, earning 13 of the 25 first-place votes. The Cowboys finished tied for second in their season opening event, the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. They are also hosting this week’s Ping Preview, where teams compete on the same course that will host the NCAA Championship next spring.
Florida rose from No. 8 to No. 2 in the poll and earned nine first-place votes, thanks to its victory at Olympia Fields. The Gators set the tournament record with their five-under 845. Three players-Bank Vongvanij, Tyler McCumber and Andrews Echavarria-recorded top-10 finishes individually.
Augusta State remained No. 3, the defending NCAA champions also finishing T-2 at Olympia Fields.
Alabama jumped from No. 15 to No. 4 after winning the Carpet Capital Classic to start the season and finishing fourth at Olympia Fields.
Stanford rounds out the top-5, falling from No. 2 in the preseason poll after a ninth-place showing at Olympia Fields.
Texas (No. 8) moved into the top-10, after being ranked No. 11 in the preseason coaches’ poll.
Iowa (No. 19), Pepperdine (No. 20) and LSU (No. 21) moved into the top-25.
