COLUMBUS, Ga, October 1, 2010 — Roy Nix, Executive Director of the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals (AGCP), the world leader in the advancement of custom clubfitting and clubmaking reports that 4 time Long Drive Champion Kevin Bullard was a big hit at the AGCP Demo Day on Wednesday, as was Jimmy Sharpe at the Member Sponsor Dinner Thursday evening. Both wowed the crowd but in different ways.
Bullard had to be backed up behind the normal teeing area of the driving range as he boomed shots over 380 yards into the trees behind the driving range and into a residential area behind the trees. After a series of massive driver shots and trick shots he ended his exhibition by driving a golf ball through a piece of ½ inch thick plywood. Bullard explained it took a ball speed of over 200 mph to go through the ½ inch plywood.
Nix says the Demo Day was a huge success as the weather was mild and sunny and the sponsors and members enjoyed a beautiful day at Woodland Hills Golf Course. AGCP Sponsors Tom Wishon Golf, FlightScope, Aerotech Shafts, Aldila, Alpha Golf, Acculength Golf, Enzo Shafts, Fierce Golf, Golf Achiever – Focaltron, Golf Around the World, Infiniti Golf, MOI Golf, Markit Golf, Nicklaus Golf , Real Feel Golf Mats, M L Wilson – Shaft Deals, OptimalFlight, Pride Sports / Soft Spikes, Pure Grips, Science & Motion Sports, S K Fiber Shafts, Sports Sensors, Inc., Swingrite, Z Factor Perfect Putting Machine, all reported they had a good day.
Nix said; the most interesting comment of the day was a sponsor saying “It’s great to be around people who get it like the AGCP members do. He continued: We do so many demonstrations where the participants simply get a glazed look when we demonstrate our fitting process”.
Jimmy Sharpe, All America football player at the University of Alabama and former Head Football Coach at Virginia Tech University regaled the members and sponsors at dinner Thursday night with tales of Alabama’s climb to a national championship from 1958 through 1961 as both Sharpe and coach Paul “Bear” Bryant came to the university in 1958. Sharpe explained that Bryant told the team that if they bought into his plan and believed what he told them, they would be National Champions in 4 years. Sharp pointed out that Bryant never mentioned the team they might be playing during the week but told the players to simply get better at what they should be doing every day and that it was what was inside of them that determined if they would be a winner both on the field and in life. He pointed out that it wasn’t athletic ability that determined the winner on Saturday, but mistakes and not carrying out assignments that cost victories. Everyone has good players, but mental mistakes and bad decisions led to defeat, much more than the skill and ability of the athletes. Sharpe, a successful business man in the Florida Pan Handle said he used the lessons learned from Coach Bryant every day even now to continue to get better every day.
