PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 7, 2010) – Plymouth Country Club, the William Flynn-designed gem in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, is bringing together 21 elite college golf teams for the annual Big 5 Invitational. The event begins with a welcome banquet on Friday night, October 8, then continues through two days of competition on Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10.
Among the 21 teams competing is defending champion Campbell University. Also, the six Philadelphia Division One schools – Villanova, Temple, St. Joseph’s, Drexel, LaSalle and Penn – will be represented. In addition, national powers such as Kentucky, Furman, Princeton and Yale will be in the field.
“We are very excited to host the tournament,” said Chris Hanson, Plymouth Country Club’s head professional. “It gives us a good opportunity to showcase our course.”
Plymouth president Bill Hirst was quick to add that the members willingly gave up the course for the weekend, saying, “Everyone is very excited about hosting the tournament. We can’t wait to see how some of the young players handle our little layout.”
Saturday morning, as the teams are preparing for the first day of battle, the GolfTalk Live radio show will be broadcasting live from a spot overlooking the putting green. Host Tony Leodora will interview a number of people involved with the course and the tournament.
GolfTalk Live airs 52 weeks a year from 7 to 8 a.m. each Saturday on WNTP 990-AM and on www.wntp.com. It also can be heard any time during the week after the show airs, by going to the website, www.golftalklive.net.
