KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 27, 2010 – Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour member Suzanne Strudwick and Misty Mayes, president/founder of Management Solutions, LLC (MSLLC), have teamed up to launch Golf AcademyOne TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Junior Academy, which offers an innovative approach towards golf improvement for juniors. Based on the principles of Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD), Golf AcademyOne TPI Junior Academy uses physical and mental activities that are age- and skill-specific. Strudwick and Mayes also launched a corresponding web site, www.tpijunioracademy.com, and are expanding their business to other golf facilities interested in establishing or enhancing their junior golf programs.
Strudwick, a LPGA Tour veteran and PGA Member, launched Golf AcademyOne in 2006 to teach golfers of all levels, and with the addition of the TPI Junior Academy Strudwick establishes herself as one of the most innovative junior golf teachers and coach in the country.
“Golf needs to be enjoyable for players of all ages, but even more so for kids who need a welcoming and interactive approach to the game,” said Strudwick, a TPI Level 3 certified instructor. “Our program offers a balance of practical fitness and golf skills combined with a big dose of fun that is great for kids of any age. And, in a time when we need kids to be active, our program keeps them running, chipping, hopping, putting or hitting the entire time.”
Golf AcademyOne TPI Junior Academy athletes participate in weekly 60-minute sessions, which help them develop sports-specific skills, learn golf-specific skills and most importantly, create a love for the game. The Academy’s approach to teaching the game will not only attract kids to the course, but also keep them there for years to come. Statistics indicate juniors stay with the program for a minimum of five years and facilities see a 75 percent increase in juniors coming to the host facility. Furthermore, according to LTAD statistics, kids who stay with this program for the entire 10-year duration will be equipped to play golf at the collegiate level.
“We need more juniors to be involved in golf and we are providing golf instruction in a new, unique, athlete-focused environment,” continued Strudwick. “We will keep true to our mission of introducing kids to golf, helping them become strong athletes and providing them the chance to become the best golfers possible.”
In addition to the launch of the Academy in Knoxville, Strudwick and Mayes are expanding their Academy program to other facilities. The complete start-up package developed by Strudwick and Mayes includes equipment, program materials, complete web site functionality and training. Participating club owners and golf professionals can implement their programs immediately.
“The TPI Junior Academy is a win-win for clubs, instructors and juniors,” said Mayes, a certified Project Management Professional. “The Academy provides a higher volume of traffic and sales for clubs with a new, fresh and fun way for teachers to teach and kids to learn.”
