Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., October 11, 2010 – Sarah Loomis of Fishers, Ind., a member of the Central Indiana (Indianapolis) chapter of the EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association), has won the 15th Annual 2010 EWGA Championship, the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the United States.
The Jacksonville Fla. scramble team won its division by 6 strokes at 14 under par. The team which placed second in last year’s competition includes Angie Browning, Susan Bennett, Susan Albrecht and Janet Pellicciotti.
Also of note, Debbie Yee, of Seattle scored a hole-in-one on the 13th hole of the Palmer course
– a 97 yard par 3 on the first day of the competition.
This year’s two-day championship finals were held on the Palmer and Trevino courses at Geneva National Resort & Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wis. on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2. The field of 220 competitors competed in five flights of individual stroke play and a scramble team division representing more than 100 EWGA chapters from 35 states and Canada. (See winners below). All competitors’ scores are available online at www.ewgachampionship.com
Loomis, a 27 year old mining representative with Caterpillar, Inc., is originally from LaCrosse, Wis. where she played on the Logan H.S. golf team. She also played for four years on her college team at Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal where she earned a degree in business administration.
“This was one of the greatest tournaments to win, especially because my mother and father were there to see me play in the final round,” says Loomis. “This is my first year as part of the EWGA. It’s been a great way to get back into golf after being away from it for five years. I have met some truly amazing people. It’s been a phenomenal experience.”
Now in its 15th year, this annual competition is recognized as the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the United States. Over 2400 participants started the competition at 120 local chapter championships and 15 semi-finals leading to the 36-hole finals.
The 2011 Championship Finals will be held on October 21st and 22nd at the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort and the Firecliff course at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California.
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 100,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and for fun. Chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
