Visual Clarity, Light Management Critical to Increased Performance
(Ridgefield, Ct; October 14, 2010) PILLA High Performance Eyewear today announced the launch of their newest line of performance eyewear targeted at golfers using an innovative light management system.
“PILLA is pleased to debut the PILLA Golf Collection of high performance eyewear with our new proprietary two-frame system,” said Philip Pilla, Chief Executive Officer and Lead Designer of PILLA High Performance Eyewear. “We dominate shooting sports with 28 of the world’s top 30 shooters wearing PILLA, so it was a natural progression for us to move into golf, where hand-eye coordination, clear vision and light management are also extremely important to the athlete. With several tour players wearing our glasses with great success, we are confident that our golf line will soon become the standard eyewear for those looking to achieve enhanced performance,” stated Pilla.
PILLA High Performance Golf Eyewear, hand-crafted to exacting standards in Italy, features a distinctive two-frame system to manage light-one frame for tee-to-green and one frame for the putting surface. PILLA’s high performance greens-reading lenses are specifically formulated to identify minor changes in contour by identifying changes in light. The ability to read minor changes in greens contour is accomplished with a lens that infuses an extremely high level of contrast while intensifying color. PILLA eyewear offers a range of lens light transmissions to offer the golfer specific technology for different lighting conditions.
“We are very excited about our entire line of PILLA High Performance Eyewear, which features more technological advancements than any other product in the industry,” said Pilla. “Our proprietary Varia lens technology automatically regulates the proper amount of light into the eye for maximum preservation of eye alertness. Because our glasses are designed for athletes by athletes, the performance gain of PILLA glasses is unmatched.”
Key Features of PILLA’s Golf Eyewear
• Two Frame Light Management System
Tee-To-Green – By managing the proper amount of light reaching a golfer’s eye, PILLA’s eyewear dramatically reduces eye fatique that can negatively affect performance. With superior optical clarity almost double that of traditional Polycarbonate lenses, PILLA’s Varia lenses maintain perfect depth of field. This eliminates the visual shift present in everyday sunglasses, allowing the golfer to properly “see” the golf ball. Putting – While the tee-to-green lens keeps the eye calm and relaxed, PILLA’s putting lens wakes the eyes up. By enhancing orange and brown in the color spectrum, the PILLA putting lens lights up the green to show grain, undulation and roll otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
• Lens Technology
– Superior resolution in lens design
– Crystal Clear Lens-front and backside Multi-Layer Anti Reflective Coatings
– Ballistx Lenses exceed Ansi Z87.1 and High Vel Impact
– Optical clarity almost double that of polycarbonate
– Enhanced high definition color enhancement
– Refined filtration for maximum visual experience
– Full application of proprietary Hydrolio Coatings
• Frame Designs for Athletes by Athletes
– PILLA’s new golf line features an open edge design; no frame on the bottom of the lens to obstruct view
– An extremely comfortable ergonomic fit. The top of the frame, composed of Grillamid TR90, sits above the eyebrow, higher than normal glasses, to allow more visual reference and less ambient light
– The temple tips, made of high performance hytrel rubber, gets tacky over time so the eyewear won’t move at all
– Nose pads, made of soft rubber megol, gets supple and shapes to the face when exposed to sweat and oil from the nose
This adds up to the most comfortable and practical sports eyewear in the world.
Frame Options
• The Liberty
The Liberty was designed to remove all ambient light by using a thick temple arm that reduces stray light from the side and behind. The frame is a high wrap open-edge design with no visual disruption and is available with 8 base lenses. The Liberty benefits from a very large lens offering a great panoramic visual experience. Color options include gloss black, root beer or black and white.
• The National
The National features smaller inverted temple arms that move the weight further back on the head to reduce pressure behind the ear. The temple tips slip easily underneath or over a hat, but can also be reversed for a more traditional look. The National uses an open-edge design, providing a sleek profile and comfortable fit. The National offers a good fit for individuals with relatively smaller facial features or higher cheek bones. It comes in gloss black color.
Lens Options:
Varia Kit: The Varia 25 Tee-To-Green lens allows 25% of light to reach the eye and adjusts to dark as 8% in full sun. The Varia kit includes the Max Orange 65 lens for putting, and is the premiere performance enhancing eyewear kit available for golf.
Standard Kit: Features the standard 15 LTM (light transmission) lens for Tee-To- Green and a HDX 55 LTM for putting. This lens configuration is perfect for those with eyes that are sensitive to color. Available in prescription, the Liberty and National starts at $269 per pair or $449 for the set of two.

“I have used the PILLA eyewear for two years and it is incredible how good they are. The two-frame system is unique and innovative. The clarity that you see on the greens with PILLA’s is unmatched. With PILLA glasses you are able to see the line of your putt far easier than any other sunglasses and even clearer than with out glasses. I wouldn’t play without them.” David Wood, PGA Willowbend Country Club
“I have been a PGA professional for 15 years. Three years ago I had eye surgery and my doctor strongly recommended I wear sunglasses whenever outside in the sun.
