Squirt, resident octopus oracle at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, picks 2010 PGA Champion Martin Kaymer to with the 28th PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Port Royal Golf Course.
It was a prediction that came down to the wire.
Squirt had to choose between four flag-adorned boxes, each filled with a shrimp. He first went after the American flagged box before settling on the shrimp in the German box. An aquarium official had to make the final call after watching the action closely from above the octopus tank.
PGA of America Senior Director of Championships David Charles was on hand to witness.
Today’s prediction comes in the wake of another of the aquarium’s octopuses attempted to predict the 2010 Cup Match Classic winner this past summer. Whodini chose Somerset over St. George’s which halfway through the cricket match looked like a plausible outcome, but rain prevented a true result to validate the fortuneteller’s true prowess.
Squirt’s prediction will be put to the test next week at the Port Royal Golf Course, October 18-20. Kaymer will face South African Ernie Els, Irishman Graeme McDowell and American David Toms with the title “Champion of Champions” on the line.
