St. George UT. – SMT Golf, maker of the longest driver on any PGA Tour since 2003, winner of 6 RE/Max World Long Drive Championships and holder of over 300 Long Drive Titles in 12 different countries, just added their first gold medal to their list of amazing accomplishments.
The Huntsman World Senior Games spectators and competitors alike watched in amazement as Washington Utah’s own Greg Walker stepped onto the competition tee with his SMT DB Plus driver on a 45 inch shaft and three golf balls. In less than two minutes, it was all over. A World Senior Games record distance shattering drive of 336 yards eclipsed the second place finisher by 46 yards. The margin of victory was also the largest in the history of the games.
SMT company owner and award winning clubhead designer Mike Tait had this to say about Mr. Walker’s achievement. “Shattering the all time driving distance record by a full 42 yards in a 23 year old event is amazing to say the least, but to put this accomplishment into perspective you have to look at what this compares to. We have already accomplished all we needed at the RE/Max World Long Drive Championships by being the first golf club manufacturer in history to win every single division of that competition, but the RE/Max field is almost dwarfed by the size, age and scope of the Huntsman World Senior Games”. Tait goes on to say, “The Huntsman World Games is a two week competition that had over 9700 athletes from 60 countries in over 25 different sports and SMT just broke the all time driving distance record by 42 yards”.
Gold medalist Greg Walker said, “I have competed in events for years, but only getting three balls and a 40 yard wide grid were absolutely the toughest conditions I have ever encountered at any event. I’ve missed a lot of grids in my career, but the very first ball I hit with SMT’s newest DB Plus driver head was dead center, won the event, and broke the records. I am very proud to have won the gold, for my family and for SMT Golf. This was a fantastic experience, one that I will never forget and it gives me great confidence heading into next week’s RE/Max World Long Drive Championships”.
