Padraig Harrington becomes first player to win with new Titleist Pro V1x prototype golf ball. Rocco Mediate eagles way to victory at Frys.com Open playing Pro V1x
Fairhaven, MA (October 18, 2010) – Padraig Harrington was filming a 2011 Titleist golf ball commercial at St. Andrews in Scotland prior to the Dunhill Links Championship two weeks ago when he asked if a few dozen of the new Pro V1x prototype golf balls that he was hitting could be delivered to his hotel. He said he would be leaving for Asia after the Dunhill and wanted to give them a try. The rest is history. Playing the golf ball for the first time in competition, Harrington captured the Asian Tour’s Iskandor Johor Open in Malaysia, becoming the first player to win with the new 2011 prototype. Two weeks ago, Titleist began the customary seeding process of the new Pro V1x and companion Pro V1 with tour players at the PGA TOUR’s McGladrey Classic. It is at venues such as the worldwide professional tours where Titleist’s new high performance golf balls and equipment are validated by the world’s most discernible players prior to going to market.
Harrington closed with a 3-under 69 for a 20-under total of 268 and a three-shot victory over 19-year old Titleist Brand Ambassador Noh Seung Yul of South Korea. One of several Titleist “young guns” around the world, Noh posted a final round 7-under 65 to finish in solo 2nd. Noh’s bag included the Pro V1x golf ball, new 910D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design wedges and Scotty Cameron California Del Mar putter. With the runner-up finish, Noh extends his Asian Tour Order of Merit lead and positions himself on track to be the youngest ever to win the Asian Tour’s OOM.
