Alabama Retains Top Spot in D-I Poll
NEW YORK, NY-The third Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the November 1 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online:http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/blogs/campusinsider
Alabama, fresh off an impressive victory at the Tar Heel Invitational (its second win of the fall), stays atop the Division I poll, claiming 21 of the 31 first-place votes. The Crimson Tide have yet to post an over-par score as a team in any of the nine rounds they’ve played so far in the 2011-2012 season, as three players sport sub-71.44 stroke averages (Camila Lennarth, Brooke Pancake and Jennifer Kirby).
LSU moves from No. 4 to No. 2, earning nine first-place votes. The Tigers have a victory and two runner-up finishes this fall, falling to Alabama both times. USC is in third place, claiming the last first-place vote, followed by UCLA and Duke.
California, the only new team in the top-10 this week, moves from No. 17 to No. 7. The Golden Bears won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and have two players (Pia Halbig and Emily Childs) with individual victories.
Three teams join the top-25: Oklahoma (T-17), Arkansas (No. 20) and Notre Dame (No. 22).
