Formula One history was made recently at the inaugural South Korean F1 Grand Prix, held at the Korea International Circuit in Yeongam. For many years, Korea has wanted to host a Formula One race, and on Sunday, that dream finally came true for millions of Korean F1 fans. Rain, darkness and safety cars all played a part in what made for a thrilling spectacle of Formula One racing at its finest.
To commemorate this history making event, Williams Sports announced G Plaza as its new distributor of golf equipment in Korea. G Plaza was founded by legendary KPGA Member, Kim Sueng Hak in 1975. With nine stores, G Plaza is the largest distributor/retailer of golf equipment in Korea.
“We decided to honor the South Korean F1 Grand Prix by announcing our new Korean Distributor on the same weekend,” said Michael Lee, CEO/President of Williams Sports, “why you may ask, because our entire line of golf equipment is centered around the same AT&T Williams Team Technology that was being used out there on the racecourse this past weekend in Yeongam. No other company in the golf industry has access to the kind of engineering and technology we use to design and manufacture our golf clubs. This is tomorrow’s technology…and we are offering to golfers worldwide today!”
Williams Sports has been granted the exclusive global licensing rights to produce golf equipment and accessories that mirror the high standards of AT&T Williams. Williams Sports is now offering an extensive line of equipment and accessories to dazzle the most enthusiastic golfers around the world.
The Williams golf clubs incorporate some very unique design features, which no other company in the golf industry has access to right now. Williams Golf works directly with AT&T Williams and has access to the resources of a $250 million dollar Research & Engineering team…that up until now, has only worked on designing multi-million dollar F1 race cars. That same technology is now being used to design golf clubs for Williams Sports.
Williams has incorporated some very unique aerodynamic design features from Formula One racing into their golf clubs. Three key aerodynamic aspects that manage airflow and reduce drag have been directly engineered into the shape of their FW32 driver, fairway woods and hybrids. The three key aerodynamic aspects are the Trip, Winglets, and Diffuser. The Trip redirects airflow over the crown of the driver to minimize the surface area of the crown that is affected by airflow contact, which is important in the reduction of drag. The Winglets manage and control the air flowing around the heel and the toe section of the driver, creating a more consistent and stable path throughout the downswing and impact. The diffuser is a key component in diffusing and controlling the air that flows across the soleplate of the driver, combining with the effectiveness of the “Trip”, to minimize the wake and density of airflow off the rear of the driver creating a significant reduction in drag.
In terms of materials, Williams has introduced some brand new materials to the golf industry as well. Densimet is a unique metal that is new to the golf industry and a by product of the AT&T Williams technology. Densimet is the second heaviest metal in the world and is used in the FW32 race car to bring the car up to the minimum race weight, while also being used to provide additional traction based on the drivers style of driving. Traditionally golf manufacturers have used Tungsten for weighting, but the Williams Golf entire product line will utilize Densimet for its weighting purposes pushing the limits of technology used in our equipment. The advanced metal allows Williams to maximize design capabilities enhanced by the reduced volume needed for Densimet usage instead of Tungsten or other materials.
The Qualifier Iron Series from Williams Golf also features design elements that originated from the AT&T Williams team of engineers. This iron is constructed from a material similar to Iconel, which is used in the exhaust systems of F1 race cars. This material has a molecular structure that provides for exceptional strength and durability, which increase the longevity and durability to golfer, without compromising feel.
