TEMPE, AZ November 4, 2010 – Scott Flansburg, better known as The Human Calculator, has joined the Celebrity Staff at Dixon Golf. Flansburg has always dreamed of being a professional golfer, and recently competed in the World Left-Handed Golf Championship as well as many other celebrity golf events world-wide.
The Human Calculator, the name given to him by Regis Philbin, is best recognized from his appearance on the Oprah show, where he wowed Ms. Winfrey with the speed at which he could calculate mathematical equations. Flansburg is currently the Guinness Book of World Record holder as “The Fastest Human Calculator”, for his ability to add two digit numbers successively faster than a calculator in a 15 second span.
Flansburg is currently featured on the History Channel’s Stan Lee’s Superhumans, a show that profiles people with extraordinary talents. In an effort to showcase the talent that earned him the Guinness World Record, he solved complex mathematical calculations faster than a team of mathematicians using calculators.
“Scott has an amazing gift. When we had a meeting with him, he asked us to take out a calculator, we didn’t know what we were in for. But that was the only way he could get us to understand exactly what he does,” remembers Dixon Golf CEO William Carey.
Flansburg, who is a scratch golfer, joined Dixon Golf’s staff because of his commitment to the environment. “As soon as I heard of the Earth ball, I had to play it. Once I did, it was all I played. Then I was introduced to the guys at Dixon Golf through a friend and they asked me to join their staff,” Flansburg said.
Flansburg is also the official spokesman for Mathletics and global ambassador for World Maths Day, an event aimed at improving school-aged children’s math skills, with Mathletics being the world’s most popular math website. Through this organization, Flansburg spreads his message of mathematical literacy and competence, stressing the importance of mathematics in the education of young people. They have even set a Guinness Book of World Records for the largest online math contest, with more than 3 million students from more than 220 countries participating.
Flasburg, who hit a hole in one with the Dixon Earth last week at Mountain Shadows Golf Club in Paradise Valley, AZ, is currently on tour in South Africa speaking to students at the Opera Winfrey Leadership Academy in Johannesburg.
As a member of the Dixon Golf staff, Flansburg will help promote the Dixon brand through his various golf outings, as well as use the Dixon brand when playing the game he loves.
“The guys at Dixon Golf are so committed to sustainable golf, and the idea that doing something different, like using an eco-friendly ball, can really have an impact on the environment,” said Flansburg.
