SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Eco-friendly amateur golfers will earn twice as many shots at $1 million this year at the Fiesta Bowl Million Dollar Hole-in-One presented by Fox Sports Arizona.
As part of a new partnership with Dixon Golf, the Hole-in-One will offer buy-one-get-one-free savings to golfers who recycle their used balls. Dixon Golf will set up a recycling booth at the 10-day event and golfers will receive a free bag of balls for every dozen that they donate to the recycling effort.
The term “green” has taken on a new meaning for the popular and exciting tournament that offers participants a chance at $1 million and fabulous prizes.
“This is a mutually beneficial promotion for participants and the Hole-in-One,” said Fiesta Bowl event coordinator Chris Myers. “We have the opportunity to help the environment and golfers can double their chances at winning $1 million.”
The Fiesta Bowl adopted the Dixon Earth ball to benefit the environment and support a local business. Community involvement is a cornerstone of the Fiesta Bowl organization, which produces and sponsors more than 40 community events throughout the year in addition to the Insight Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and this year’s Tostitos BCS National Championship.
More than 10,000 golf balls are used every year for the Hole-in-One, and to date, none of those has been recycled. As part of the recent partnership, the Fiesta Bowl will be able to recycle used balls and replace them with eco-friendly Dixon Earth balls.
The event will be held at the Arizona Biltmore Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz., from Nov. 4-14. Daily rounds run from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to noon on Nov. 14. The final round will take place on Nov. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
For only $1 a shot, more than 1,000 golfers of varying skill levels will aim for a hole-in-one on a 125-yard hole. The top finishers each day receive prizes including PING irons and golf bags, complimentary foursomes at the Valley’s best golf courses and certificates for Arizona’s finest restaurants.
The top three daily finishers, including anyone who nails a hole-in-one, advance to the finals for a shot at the $1 million hole or three highly-coveted grand prizes. In 2002, Ray Mills of Phoenix, Ariz., was the first and only golfer to ever hit the million dollar hole-in-one.
