Golf classic fundraising efforts provide for men and women of our armed services past, present and future
City of Industry, Calif., (Nov. 8, 2010) – The Land of the Free Foundation has partnered once again with the Pacific Palms Hotel and Conference Center in the City of Industry California and the Industry Hills Golf Club to play host to the annual Land of the Free Veterans Day Golf Classic on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010.
The Land of the Free Foundation Veterans Day Golf Classic is the primary fundraising event for the Land of the Free Foundation. The Land of the Free Foundation was started to recognize the men and women of our armed services past, present and future and their families who work and sacrifice every day to ensure that we will always live in the “Land of the Free.” All contributions are tax deductible and all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting charities that help America’s military and their families.
“With all that is going on in the world today, we are concerned that our busy lives sometimes prevent us from recognizing the hard work and sacrifice of our young men and women in the Armed Forces, unfortunately the need continues to grow” said foundation co-chairman John Semcken. “It is our desire to fund a foundation that supports our veterans whose dedication ensures that we will always live in “The Land of the Free”.

Semcken, a former Navy Fighter Pilot, Kent Valley, a decorated Marine in Vietnam and Ed Roski, Jr., also a decorated Vietnam Marine, are donating the use of Pacific Palms resort, including the two golf courses, food and banquet facilities, tee prizes, awards and fly-over to ensure that 100% of the money raised at this event goes directly to the programs that support our troops.
All of the contributions go directly to this year’s designated beneficiaries: Semper Fi Fund; TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors); Operation Homefront Southern California, the USO Greater Los Angeles Area and Casa Colina.
Members of every branch of the military will be on hand to share military experiences and a four-star awards and benefits gala will be the culmination of the day of golf. This year’s guest speaker is Medal of Honor winner Mike Thornton.
The Golf Classic will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast, registration and a putting contest. A ceremonial tribute will take place at 9:45 a.m. followed by golf beginning at 10 a.m. In-N-Out Burger will be provided on the course and the Potts Family Senior Military Reception will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the Solomon Dubro Dinner & Awards Reception. The keynote address by Thornton is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
