North Stonington, Conn., November 19, 2010 – The Elite Junior Programs at the Hank Haney Golf Academy at Lake of Isles is one of region’s top programs for the aspiring junior golfer. The six-month program, which includes two instruction sessions a month, is designed to give the serious junior golfer a professional approach to their development as a golfer and person.
The comprehensive training sessions include range and on course instruction, 3D and video swing analysis, physical training and an exercise session. Each golfer is given a performance plan with goals and action plans to help the junior improve their game. Juniors are asked to keep a journal and record all practice and coaching sessions, skills tests and competitive rounds analysis.
“This is the only program in the Northeast based on long term athletic development for each individual athlete,” said Derek Hooper, director of instruction, Hank Haney Golf Academy at Lake of Isles. “We test and measure all our athletes and then work with them to build a plan for their improvement technically, physically and mentally. Throughout the season we constantly check the athlete’s progress against their annual plan and give feedback and instruction to ensure everyone is improving. The feedback from the athletes and parents has been extremely positive.”
The program, now in its third year is taught by Derek Hooper, director of instruction at Lake of Isles, Sue Cart, senior instructor and physical therapists Terri Ditmar and David Balogh.
“I had both my sons in the program this year and was extremely happy with the improvements they made technically and physically,” said John VanDerLaan. “The boys were excited to attend every practice session and follow their improvements in their journals. Derek and his team are delivering a program unlike any other I have seen for teenage golfers. This program would be very beneficial to any junior who has aspirations of playing golf in College or beyond.”
