(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Entering its 23rd season, the West Michigan Golf Show–to be held Feb. 11-13 in downtown Grand Rapids–is thankful for its sponsors in making the show a “must attend” golf happening for the state.
“Approaching the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to express our gratitude to not only our patrons and exhibitors but also to our loyal sponsors who help to elevate the show and make it better each year,” said Show Manager Carolyn Alt. “In particular, our sponsors broaden the awareness of the show while also supporting the many interactive areas of the show so popular with golfers. And many of these interactive areas in turn help to raise funds for local charity.”
Returning as the sponsor of the Par-Three Challenge is Treetops Resort of Gaylord, Mich. Through Treetops’ support, a fully landscaped par-three will again be built inside DeVos Place. Raising money for local charity, golfers will tee it up and compete for closest to the pin prizes and hope to be that one lucky golfer who makes an ace on Sunday afternoon and earns $25,000. Incidentally, in 2011, Treetops will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Masterpiece course designed by the renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
Anniversaries will be a theme for several other sponsors at this year’s show to be held at DeVos Place. Shanty Creek Resort, in Bellaire, Mich, will be celebrating the 25th anniversary this year of the Arnold Palmer-designed The Legend Golf Course, one of Michigan’s most popular layouts. With special prizes, gifts and seminars, Shanty Creek will be touting this milestone for The Legend in its sponsorship of Ladies Night at the Golf Show on Friday, Feb. 11.
Meanwhile, the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM), an exhibitor for the past 23 straight years, returns as a sponsor representing nearly 60,000 amateur golfers in the state. Once again, show patrons can sign up for a GAM membership, which includes the popular Swing & Save Gold Card, at the GAM booth.
The GAM’s premier event is the Michigan Amateur which will celebrate its 100th edition in June at Boyne Highlands. In conjunction with Boyne Resorts, the GAM is planning a number of special events to mark this special Centennial of the Amateur Championship first held at Kent County Club in Grand Rapids in 1906 and won by James Wylie of Saginaw.
Boyne Resorts and the Michigan P.G.A. again will be providing free golf lessons all weekend at DeVos Place. In spite of snow on the ground outside, golfers inside the Show will be receiving an early season swing tune-up with PGA golf professionals.
And Srixon returns as “the official golf ball of the West Michigan Golf Show.” Anyone purchasing tickets online (hint: a stocking stuffer) as well as the first 100 people entering the Show each day will receive a free 2-ball pack of Srixon.
Held continuously since 1989, the West Michigan Golf Show will attract thousands of Michigan golfers to hundreds of exhibits and will feature clinics by the 2010 PGA Teacher of the Year, Todd Anderson, a native of Grand Rapids and now Director of Instruction at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia.
