HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -The Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island recently hosted a charity Golf Tournament at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club that took place on November 5th, 2010. This is Heritage Golf Group’s 5th event for the year. Birdies for the Brave is a nationwide program launched by the U.S. Department of Defense that generates financial support for our for military homefront groups that directly serve military men and women lost or seriously injured in performance of their duty. Birdies for the Brave is a primary element of Heritage Golf Group’s philanthropic endeavors.
The Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island hosted the charity Golf Tournament on Friday, November 5th which culminated with a dinner, silent auction & awards ceremony following play, raising $29,000. The Birdies for the Brave event, held at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club, featured keynote speaker Colonel Kewyn Williams: Deputy Garrison Commander at Hunter Army Airfield, as well as another distinguished guest, Mike Thornton, Navy Seal Medal of Honor recipient. The event also included 24 active service members, representing the Army, Coast Guard and Air Force from Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, who all played as guests and were each paired with every registered foursome.

It is a great opportunity to show the brave men and women of the United States military how much we appreciate what they do for us every day,” said Ken McNerney, General Manager & Director of Golf at Shipyard Golf Club. “We saw great support from our community to make this annual event a success in giving back to the military organizations.”
Heritage Golf Group’s collection of premier clubs nationwide will continue to raise funds throughout 2010, during nine charity golf tournaments, silent auctions, and accompanying fundraising activities. Since 2007, Heritage Golf Group has held over twenty-one Birdies for the Brave golf tournaments with accompanying auction galas, which raised over $1.3 million.
Proceeds from these events will benefit eight military homefront groups that are supported by PGA TOUR players, including: Homes For Our Troops and Special Operations Warrior Foundation supported by Phil Mickelson; Wounded Warrior Project supported by TOUR players Nick Watney, Boo Weekley, Jason Gore & Frank Lickliter II; Operation Homefront supported by TOUR player Corey Pavin; Naval Special Warfare Foundation supported by TOUR players Jerry Kelly, Frank Lickliter II & Vijay Singh; Military Warriors Support Foundation supported by TOUR player Ted Purdy; Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and United Through Reading supported by TOUR player Rory Sabbatini.
