Ogilvy, Westwood Lead Titleist to 4-Win Week. Hjorth, Fujita Win with Pro V1 Prototype Golf Balls.
Fairhaven, MA (December 6, 2010) – As the 2010 season comes to a close, the winning trust in Titleist continues the world over. Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy relied on the Pro V1 golf ball and a complete bag of Titleist equipment to earn his first Australian Open title. At the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa, Titleist Pro V1x loyalist, Lee Westwood, cemented his year-end World No. 1 ranking with an impressive 8-shot win. Maria Hjorth won the LPGA Tour Championship trusting the New Pro V1x prototype golf ball, while in Japan, Hiroyuki Fujita captured the JT Cup, relying on the New Pro V1 prototype.
AUSTRALASIAN TOUR: Geoff Ogilvy claimed his first Australian Open title with a four-shot victory. He finished at 19-under 269, holding off fellow Titleist Brand Ambassadors Matt Jones (Pro V1x, 910D2 driver, 909F fairway metal, 909H hybrid, MB irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron putter) and Alistair Presnell (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 910F fairway metal, 910H hybrid, MB irons, Vokey Design wedges), who finished joint runner-up at 15-under 273.
– The win is the second of the year for Ogilvy, coming almost 11 months after winning the PGA TOUR’s season-opening SBS Championship in Hawaii.
– What’s in Geoff’s Bag?: Pro V1, 910D3 driver (8.5, SureFit setting A-3), 910F fairway metal (15.0), MB irons (3-9), Vokey Design wedges (50, 55, 58), Scotty Cameron putter.
– Titleist was the top choice in golf balls with 122 players, more than 13 times the nearest competitor (9).
– Nine of the 11 golfers who finished among the top 10 and ties trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success.
– Titleist was also the field favorite in every other major equipment category including drivers (58); fairway metals (65); hybrids (48); irons (79); approach, sand and lob wedges (189); and putters (47).
SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR: Lee Westwood (Pro V1x) cemented his year-end World No. 1 ranking with an 8-shot win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City. Westwood closed with a 4-under 68, including a chip-in for birdie on the final hole to finish at 17-under 271. Westwood led the 12-player field since Friday, having posted rounds of 68, 64 and 71 and was unchallenged on the final day to win his first Nedbank title.
– Titleist Brand Ambassador Ross Fisher (Pro V1x, 910D3 driver, 910F fairway metal, 909H hybrid, 695MB irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter) finished at 5-under 283, tied for 5th.
LPGA TOUR:
– Maria Hjorth became the first LPGA Tour player to win with the New Pro V1x prototype golf ball, where it was an all-Titleist finish at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship. Hjorth closed with a final-round 72 for her first victory since 2007. The win was the fourth of Hjorth’s career.
– Hjorth finished at 5-under 283, and was one of only six players in the field of 120 to finish below par for the tournament.
– Third-round leader Amy Yang (Pro V1) finished one shot back, making a birdie on the final hole, forcing Hjorth to sink an 8-footer for the win.
– Pro V1 loyalists Cristie Kerr and In-Kyung Kim tied for 3rd, followed by Na Yeon Choi (Pro V1x) and Laura Diaz (Pro V1) who tied for 5th, another shot back.
– With her top 5 finish, Choi won this year’s money title and also claimed the Vare Trophy for the year’s lowest scoring average. Jiyai Shin (Pro V1) keeps her spot atop the world rankings.
– For her outstanding performance this season Pro V1x loyalist Yani Tseng clinched LPGA player of the year. Tseng had three wins, including major victories at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
– Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the LPGA Tour Championship with 87 players, more than six times the nearest competitor with 14. Of the 10 players who finished tied for 7th or better at the event, nine trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success.
JAPAN TOUR: – Hiroyuki Fujita (New Pro V1 prototype, 909H hybrids, Vokey Design approach wedge, Vokey Design TVD sand wedge, Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback putter) eagled the 17th hole to pass Toru Taniguchi (Pro V1x) and win the season-ending JT Cup 2010 on the Japan Golf Tour by one shot. Fujita closed with a 4-under 66 to finish at 15-under 265, while Taniguchi fired a final round 9-under 61 to get into contention.
– Fujita becomes the first player on the worldwide professional tours to win with the New Pro V1 golf ball. Michio Matsumura won last week playing the New Pro V1x on the Japan Golf Tour. The victory was Fujita’s second this season (Tsuruya Open) and the 10th of his career.
– Fujita finished second on the money list behind Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909H hybrid, ZB and ZM irons, Vokey Design wedges), who carded a closing 5-under 65 and shared 5th.
– The 24-year-old Kim became the first South Korean money title winner on the JGTO Tour. He is also the second non-Japanese-born player to win the title following David Ishii, an American golfer of Japanese descent, in 1987.
– Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the limited-field JT Cup with 10 players, compared to 85 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the top choice in hybrids (9); and approach, sand and lob wedges (28).
